With all of the available platforms and mediums out there, it can be hard to know where to focus your efforts and your energy. Don't get me wrong, I love creating and hosting this podcast and will continue to do so, but I wanted to share with you why YouTube is moving into the primary position as I focus on growth this year. Hello there, if we haven't met, I'm Jamie Renee and this is the Perfection That Required podcast. On this show, we talk about creating an online business from the inside out, and that means in addition to the awesome Instagrammable guests that share their light and wisdom, you also get a front row seat into the things I'm learning and trying in my business. So let's get into it. In 2020, before the world as we knew it fell apart, I had started on my YouTube journey. I was still trying to figure out my thing, so I went in the direction of cooking like food videos, thinking that my love for cooking was never ending and sustainable. Fast forward nine months and I was sick of cooking and then cleaning up and then cooking some more. Everybody was home. It was pretty much all I was doing was like breakfast, lunch, and dinner, pandemic. It was like I was so sick of cooking. Finally, it just got to the point, like nine months in where I just called it like no more YouTube cooking channel. So I'm sure if you've been around for a minute, you've heard this story before, but just a quick backup. Basically, I stopped my YouTube channel, work got super busy, and then like a year later, like still doing nothing with the YouTube channel, but I took a severance and left my corporate job. And I suddenly had all this time. And so I started going to the process of resurrecting my YouTube channel and started to think that this was okay. Well, now I can put more focus on it. I've had a little bit of separation. And really, it came down to the fact that still it wasn't jiving. I started my podcast shortly after, and then that became my focus, and YouTube just got pushed to the back burner. So podcast for the last year, and then transitioned back into corporate, and so now my time has kind of shifted again. So I have finally found like the thing that I will eventually be paid for, the thing that I'm learning to monetize, and it's all of the stuff that I've totally geeked out on in the past. It's all of the business back end, it's the systems, it's the automations, all of those sorts of things. And honestly, all of those kind of things that I'm interested in talking about, there is somewhat a platform for that on a podcast, but it that type of support that I want to give and the education and knowledge that I want to share is more suitable for YouTube. So at this point, YouTube is moving to the primary spot on my content creation plan, my growth strategy for the next 12 months or for the rest of this year. So this is where the focus is. And it's a way for me to really showcase my expertise, things that I geek out on, help my friends that I've met in this space, where maybe that's not their zone of genius, but it is mine. Like those are the things that get me excited. Like we have our um bi-weekly pod squad meetings with a couple of women that I've met in this podcasting group, and we're still continuing like a year and a half later, and it's amazing, and I love them. Shout out, ladies. Anyway, so we have that this group in this meeting, and some of us are techie and some of us are not. And it's been fun to be able to help my friends in a way that is really super easy for me, and like also lights me up. So that's where I am moving into that area of training, support, education, all of the things leading into like business backend things. Um, so that's number one. It's or two and three. I have no idea like exactly the order or what all I've said. But basically, one, it lends itself to more of the content that I want to create. It falls within my zone of genius as far as the content that I want to talk about. Not so much the video, um, video, not production and video speaking at this point. There's still a learning curve that I'm gonna have to embrace again. And also like video is having a moment. Video is rising. You can tell with Instagram stories, with TikTok, with YouTube shorts, with YouTube in general, all of the technology and the way that things are moving toward video. And not to say that podcasting isn't an awesome medium. I love it. I just think that video, particularly YouTube, because YouTube is a search engine. Like it operates as a search engine to provide people what it they are looking for. And there is just not that kind of technology in the podcasting space. Like it's kind of hard to grow your podcast because there's not like really searchable ways for people to find new podcasts to listen to. So that's why it also feeds into my overall growth of the show. And even though I'm cutting my podcast back to bi-weekly instead of weekly, plan is that having the YouTube channel where I am using examples and I am talking about my business. YouTube is also owned by Google, the largest search engine. So whenever I am showing people how to do things within their business, I am using my podcast, my business as an example. And in turn, there will be a subset of people that are also interested in my podcast. And so where my reach, where I'm talking to podcasters and coaches on YouTube and showing them the back end of their business and how to set automations up and how to streamline processes within their stuff, like within their business, that will naturally lead a smaller group of those people into my podcast. So as I'm growing my YouTube channel, I will also in turn be growing my podcast. So that is something that I am hoping that I will get the benefit from that. At least that's the plan. We'll see if I have the bandwidth to do it all. Yeah. To be determined. But right now I'm trying to put less pressure on the podcast and move into video. So in addition to video having its moment, once I get over the hump of speaking on camera again, once I get back into that practice and back into that groove of filming, I mean, I did it for nine months straight and I kind of got a rhythm, but I haven't done it in a long time. So I am a little bit rusty on like the introduction and just kind of being concise on YouTube because you do have such a limited time to get people to actually listen to you in the beginning if you're not clear and concise on what you want. So I have some work to do there. All of this is a growing process. You don't just get good over tonight, you get good by consistently uh just putting yourself out there and trying to do a little bit better each time and uh doing a little less awkward, a little less shitty, a little more together, all of those things. That is the plan. And because I can record these in my office, I'm not using the kitchen because it doesn't have to be absolutely quiet. I can do these in my office and know the lighting is not great and the background is messy, but it's fine. We're moving forward. I think that it will be easier for me because I'm not coordinating anybody else's schedules. And it's something that I'm already doing in my business. It's more of recording what I need to do, being organized about it, and then really uh the editing is always a thing. So we'll figure that part out. But anyway, I do anticipate that once I get over the hump that it will be an easier thing for me to complete instead of the podcast, which whenever I'm scheduling guests and coordinating all that stuff can add up. On top of the videos, the strategy is that the content is really easy for me to share. The content is things that I'm doing in my business and things that I'm already helping with people with in real life. Also, because I'm speaking to coaches and podcasters, I know exactly how to help her. I know exactly how to help you because I know the background of what you're doing. I know what happens on the back end. I know that things can look one way on the front side, but then it's like a shit show behind the doors. So I want to help clear all that up and really help women get to that place to where they feel together and like their business is supporting them so that they can focus on the things that they love and have time to focus on the things that they love. And so, really, where I like to dive deep and fiddle with tech and like that, like I can geek out on that stuff and I will go deep and I will figure it out and then share it so that everybody else doesn't have to spend the hours that I did because that's fun for me and not necessarily for other people. So I understand exactly how to help podcasters, I know exactly how to help coaches, I understand that the creative brain and the analytical brain are not always friends, and I know how to play in that space. So I'm excited to bring all of those things together. And also, quite frankly, YouTube plays into my long-term passive income goals. I know that monetizing my channel is something that is on my radar this year. It is something that I will accomplish by the end of the year. I know which direction I'm going in. I know how to do things now. I'm like in a lot better place than I was the first time I started it. And so once my channel is monetized, yes, I'm putting in things up front, and I have been for a long time, but eventually that will start to pay off. And so then I'm no longer trading time for dollars, and that is my ultimate goal, is to have multiple streams of passive income that are up and running before I do anything else as far as leave corporate again or transition out of corporate job, all that sort of thing. Anyway, all of that to say, again, I'm taking the long view. I'm not giving up on the podcast because it also plays into long-term passive income goals, but the plan is to grow both as a result, and the YouTube video route feels more attainable and feels closer to monetization, whether that be directly or indirectly for the YouTube channel, than my podcast does right now. I know that eventually the podcast is going to be a long-term asset for my business. And it's also like a journal, almost a point in time to where my thoughts were, where I was at the time, and just kind of watching that transition. It is something that I am not going to abandon because it is part of long-term goals. But the YouTube channel is as well. All of that to say this is why YouTube is part of my growth strategy. It's not abandoning one for the other, but this one is shifting into the primary spot for the reasons I told you. Anyway, that is it. I appreciate you hanging out.
